VNR Guava ( Psidium guajava cv. VNR 1) is a high-yielding, improved variety of guava developed by VNR Seeds, Chhattisgarh, and widely cultivated across India due to its excellent fruit quality, early bearing, and market appeal. This variety belongs to the Myrtaceae family and is a medium-sized evergreen tree growing up to 3–4 meters tall with a dense, dome-shaped canopy. VNR guava is known for producing extra-large, round to oval fruits , weighing 300–900 grams , with smooth green skin and white, firm, crispy pulp . The fruit is sweet, low in seed content , and rich in vitamin C, making it ideal for both table consumption and commercial trade. VNR Guava thrives in tropical to subtropical climates , performing best in well-drained loamy to sandy loam soils with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 . It requires full sun exposure and moderate irrigation , especially during the flowering and fruiting stages. The plant is propagated through air layering or grafting and begins bearing fruits as early as 8–10 months after planting, with commercial harvests from the second year . Fruiting occurs mainly in the rainy (August–September) and winter (November–January) seasons. Under proper care and nutrition, each plant can yield up to 40–60 kg of fruit annually. This variety is moderately tolerant to common pests and diseases like fruit flies and wilt but benefits from regular pruning and integrated pest management. Due to its uniform fruit size, attractive appearance, good shelf life , and strong market demand, VNR Guava is highly preferred for orchards, nurseries, and commercial plantations .
